SBB and the Canton Basel-Stadt initiate the Smart City Lab Basel: Because innovations happen by working collaboratively and require space for dialogue and experiments. The lab offers the opportunity to develop ideas, share know-how and data, test technologies and experience new solutions together.
In exchange with businesses, research, the administration and the public, new ideas are developed according to the collective requirements and the ecological challenges faced. The Smart City Lab Basel will act as an innovation hotspot reaching beyond the regional borders, connecting with domestic and foreign Smart City research projects.

The Smart City Lab Basel is located in the area “Wolf”. The freight station Wolf is located centrally by the railway station and primarily serves the handling of goods. In the upcoming years, a new urban neighbourhood will develop, combining housing, logistics, industry and office spaces.
